Leeds Craftivists are a group of creatives passionate about changing the world for the better. We believe that if we’re hoping to build a kinder, more gentle world, then our actions must be kind and gentle too. We craft intriguing objects to invite those in power to join us in working towards a better world.
Most of our work in 2021 has focused on the climate crisis and building a greener, more sustainable future. Climate breakdown is the biggest existential threat to our existence this generation faces. In the run-up to COP26 in November, we focused all our efforts on lobbying those in power to make the changes we urgently need in areas such as homes, food, transport, and plastic waste. During our monthly meetings we use short meditations to get in the right headspace for our reflective activism, share ideas, hear talks from experts on specific areas of climate concern and create a small, beautiful object to send to somebody in power as a means of asking for change.
We have our roots in local Leeds communities, but we’ve spread much further afield since starting the group, with members across the country joining our monthly online gatherings! We met face-to-face for the first time since the start of the Covid19 pandemic in November, and we’d love to welcome you to an online meeting and/or face-to-face gathering soon.
